My passion for working with children took root during my undergraduate years at Penn State University, where I studied Human Development and Psychology. A professor of mine owned a preschool and child development center where I began spending my afternoons and summers, an experience that would shape the entire trajectory of my career. It was there that I first witnessed the unique needs of each child and the profound difference a single adult, teacher, therapist, or trusted presence can make in a child’s life when they offer the attention and patience that child needs to thrive.
After graduating from Penn State, I returned to Philadelphia and began working as a 1:1 aide for elementary-aged students in public schools and as a special instructor in the birth-to-three early intervention program. After 3 years of working in mental health for a non-profit organization, I started the occupation therapy program at Thomas Jefferson University. When I wasn’t in the classroom or studying, I completed internships at private schools for students with learning disabilities, assisted faculty with research and book writing, and developed a Kindergarten screening program to identify children who could benefit from occupational therapy support in the classroom.
In 2012 I earned my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and spent the first seven years of my OT career honing my clinical skills alongside some of Philadelphia’s finest therapists at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. There, I provided individual and group therapy to children from birth to 21 years old, supporting young patients through brain injury rehabilitation, cancer treatment, mental health challenges, and a wide range of complex and rare medical conditions. After leaving CHOP I transitioned to a role in early intervention 3-5 program with a local intermediate unit where I delivered preschool and community-based occupational therapy services, developed IEP goals and strategies, conducted standardized assessments, and participated in IEP meetings and due process hearings.
Throughout my career, my ultimate goal has always been to bring the best possible care to children and families. Providing this level of expertise and support can often be challenging within the restrictions of public entities and community programs. I want families to feel supported and knowledgeable in the care their child is receiving so that those skills are generalized to the home, community and school setting. I look forward to problem solving the unique needs of every child and building rapport and trust through collaboration with both the children and their family. My goal in working at Foundations Pediatric Therapy is to provide therapy that truly makes a difference, one child and one family at a time.
